Kids say the darndest things

I wanted to share a few of the cute things that Madelyn has been saying lately. We think she is very smart the way she communicates and remembers everything she hears and sees.

Madelyn has been a nail biter for a while now, and I have been trying to get her to stop this habit. This is a bad habit that my husband also has, and it is probably why she bites her nails. Someone told me to try painting her nails, so I painted her nails pink. While I was painting her nails, I told her if she wanted her nails to stay pretty she couldn't bite them. Madelyn looked at me and said, "Mommy, you need to paint Daddy's nails, too."

Jerry and Madelyn were outside feeding her pet rabbits (which I will share pics of soon, I promise). He was trying to teach her that we couldn't overfeed them or they would get really fat. She looked at Jerry and said, "Daddy, you eat too much."

My dad is a farmer, and Madelyn likes to ride the tractor with him. It had been a while since she had gotten to ride because we had had a lot of rain. We were driving down the road when she saw a tractor. This was our conversation:
Madelyn: Pappy gonna call me and let me ride the tractor?
Me: Yes, Pappy will call you whenever you can ride again.
Madelyn: When is Pappy gonna call me to ride?
Me: I don't know sweetie. He will call you whenever it is dry enough for you to ride.
Madelyn: But Mommy....I left my cell phone at home.
Me: Well, Pappy will call Mommy's phone when you can ride.
Madelyn: NO! He only knows my phone number.

And last, but not least.
We were driving to church, and Madelyn had her little pink Bible. She was in the back seat really preaching away. She had the Bible open and was waving her hands. We kept hearing her say "God says" or "Jesus says" followed by words we couldn't understand. Then I heard her say, "God says no more monkeys jumping on the bed. "

Ashley's baby shower

Ashley's shower was held at her friend Mary Beth's house. I was excited to get to meet her because we had been praying for her little girl for a very long time. She had some very serious heart conditions, but she seems to be a very normal little girl now. I was thrilled to see Ann Louise running around and playing. She truly is a miracle from God.

Madelyn had a very good time playing with Ann Louise and her brothers, Graham and Reed.

Madelyn and Ann Louise. I happened to catch them during a "break". They had been chasing each other around the house.

At the shower, we each made a scrapbook page for Ashley's memory book. I thought this was the neatest idea. It was a fun activity, and it saves the new mommy a lot of work. Just add pictures and your scrapbook is complete.

Love the little monkey outfit.
Ashley and Josh have chosen not to find out the gender of their baby until it is born ( notice the ? mark on the box). This has absolutely driven some of her friends and family nuts. haha I think it is a great idea in theory, but I would never make it.
Ashley and I together. I told her to stick her belly out and I would suck in. ha!
It was nice to finally visit Asheville. We were only there for a short time, but I thought we had a really nice visit. We will have to plan another trip when we can stay longer. Of course, next time, there will be a new baby.

North Carolina

This past weekend Madelyn and I went on a little trip to North Carolina to go to my friend Ashley's baby shower. I know you are thinking, "who drives from Western KY to NC to go to a baby shower?." Well, Ashley and I have been friends since 6th grade, and I had been meaning to go visit her anyway. This seemed like a perfect time to go.

We rode with Ashley's mom, aunt, sister-in-law, and niece. We had a really nice trip. We were all tired after the long drive, but we were in good company. Ashley lives in Asheville, but we stayed in Maggie Valley, about 3o minutes away. Ashley's aunt and uncle live there, and they opened up their home for us to stay with them. Their home was beautiful. It reminded me of a vacation home that you would rent for a week. They are so blessed to live there all the time.

There is a creek, that flows down the mountain, in their backyard. It was so peaceful to open the door in my bedroom and listen to the rushing water in the night.

I took Madelyn down to see the creek. She asked to put her toes in the water, but it didn't last long. The water was ice cold, but she enjoyed sitting by the water and watching it flow. She said it was so beautiful, and I would have to agree.

I took some pics at the baby shower that I will post later this week. I just wanted you to see how much fun we had in NC.

God bless

Egg hunt

After church on Easter Sunday, we had a huge egg hunt for the kids. Madelyn loved it. She told everyone that she found all the eggs. This is all the kids waiting for the go ahead to run into the field.

Madelyn with her basket of eggs. She was not happy that I sat her down in the grass. She wanted to go look for more eggs even though the egg hunt was over and all the eggs had been found.

After church, we went to my Dad's house for Easter lunch and another egg hunt. It was a beautiful day, so the kids got to spend the afternoon in the yard playing.

All ready to hunt for the eggs.

The kids had so much fun playing together. My dad took all the kids for rides on his new Ranger. It is kind of like a golf cart, but it goes faster. We had a wonderful time being together. I hope your Easter was as blessed as mine.

Easter 2010

On Easter Sunday morning, we had the pleasure of having Charlotte Ritchie and her family join us for service. Madelyn is Charlotte's biggest fan. She always wants to listen to her CD in the car, and she can sing along to most of the songs. Charlotte invited her up front to sing a song with her, and Madelyn was more than happy to join her. Madelyn thought that was the greatest thing.

Madelyn finding her Easter basket from the Easter bunny. She was so excited.

Madelyn and the Easter bunny. She was not as excited about sitting on the bunny's lap this year. We really had to talk her into it. She really wanted to see the bunny until we got there and she saw him. I had to pry her off of me to put her in the bunny's lap. We were able to get a fake smile and a decent picture.

She enjoyed having tea with the ducks over sitting in the bunny's lap. She did not want to leave her tea party.

She liked these bunnies also. She wanted to hold their hands and talk with them. I guess because they were her size. The giant bunny can be a little intimidating even if he is cute.

We had a wonderful Easter. Of course, we know that Easter is far more than Easter bunnies and candy. We know that this is the day that we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I pray that everyone of you know Him and celebrate with me that Jesus is alive!

Buddy the dog

Last year, during the terrible ice storm and power outage, we stayed with Jerry's aunt and uncle. They had a fireplace and a generator so we would be able to stay warm. Trevor, Jerry's cousin, had a 160 pound dog as a pet. Buddy the dog is a very spoiled, but very gentle house dog. Madelyn, 18 months at the time, was fascinated by this "puppy" as she called him. It was quite entertaining for the entire house to watch as she followed him around saying, "come here baby". Imagine calling a 160 pound dog a baby....

During one of the pretty days this week, Trevor brought Buddy over for a visit. As you can see, Madelyn and Buddy are still good friends.

Where I have been...

Wow....I just saw that my last post was almost a month ago. I honestly don't know how these other mommy bloggers post every day. I try to spend as much time as possible with my husband and daughter. I also do not want to spend my entire evening, every night, on my computer. Besides, I don't always have something interesting to write about.

We have been very busy lately. These are just a few of the things that have been going on around here....

We are finally beginning to have some pretty spring weather. We have been able to spend some time out playing in the yard which is great. Madelyn and I were beginning to get cabin fever. She would ask me everyday if she could go outside and play. It has been so great to get some fresh air.

The weather also motivates me to get some projects done that I have been putting off. The dreary winter weather makes me lazy. I have been working on getting some closets and junk drawers cleaned out and organized. I am also working on finishing the paint project in my utility room. There are a few other small things I have been wanting to get done, so I am excited that this weather has energized me into doing my projects.

We have also had a death in the family. My husband's Aunt Joyce passed away after spending 9 days in the Critical Care Unit. She was like a mother to him, so it was a very difficult loss for him.

We have also been very busy with our church. We have several events that we are planning, and we have started Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University. This 13 week course also requires weekly reading and homework assignment. It is a really good study and I am learning so much from it.

Life is so short that I don't want to wake up one day and realize I missed it. I probably won't be posting everyday because I don't want to spend my life on my computer. I will try to post weekly because I want to journal the special things that happen in our life for me. I want my priorities to be in the right place. I'm not perfect, but I am striving for the prize....
